My Story

I've gone from working the family farm to leading IT for Michigan's agricultural community. Here is the story of how I got here.

Where I Come From

The short version

My grandfather started farming this land outside Lansing in the 1950s. Five generations later, we're still here. Growing up on the farm taught me a few things that stuck: you plan for the long term, you fix problems instead of complaining about them, and you show up when there's work to do.

My wife and I are raising three kids. They are the real reason I care about this work. It isn't just about "building a better future" in the abstract; it's because I want Michigan to be a great place for them to grow up. That's what drives my decisions.

There's also a useful parallel between farm work and technology work. Both require patience, both involve managing complexity, and both reward people who think systematically. I've found the habits from one translate well to the other.

Core Values

The principles that guide how I approach work and community

Long-Term Thinking

Farmers don't plant for this week. I try to build systems and make decisions the same way—focused on what will matter in five years, not just next quarter.

Getting It Done

Bureaucracy is real, but it doesn't have to be an excuse. I've found that most barriers can be worked around if you're persistent and creative.

Local First

Michigan matters to me because it's where my family is and where I've chosen to build my career. I'm invested in making this state work better.

Practical Technology

Technology should solve actual problems, not create new ones. I'm skeptical of hype and interested in what actually works.

Steady Improvement

Big transformations happen through small, consistent changes. I'd rather ship ten small improvements than talk about one big overhaul.

Systems Thinking

Most problems are symptoms of something upstream. I try to understand the whole system before jumping to fix the obvious symptom.

People Over Process

Good processes serve people, not the other way around. I try to remember that every system we build affects real humans.

Let's Connect

I'm always happy to talk about technology, digital strategy, or Michigan's farming heritage. If you want to connect, I'd love to hear from you.
